THE SITUATION
A founder has hired help but still approves routine work. Decisions queue up, and the founder remains overloaded.
WHAT THE ANALYSIS CONSIDERS
Unclear decision authority is one possible explanation. Insufficient staff capacity or work that genuinely requires the founder’s judgment could also explain the queue. Those possibilities need checking before prescribing delegation.
WHAT WOULD DISTINGUISH THE EXPLANATIONS?
Review a week of queued decisions: who had the information, authority, time, and skills to act? If clear authority already exists but workloads exceed capacity, delegation alone is unlikely to resolve the delay.
DEPENDENCIES AND TRADEOFFS
Faster approvals depend on access to information and a person able to carry the responsibility. More hiring adds cost; wider authority can add error risk. Check those conditions before choosing either intervention.
